Terminal 1 Barcelona Miro Lounge Review

With our Portugal and Spain trip at an end, it was time to depart Barcelona for Washington Dulles.  After a rather irritating airport experience – I found that the Barcelona airport had very poor signage for check-in counters and very long queues at nearly every step of the process – we aimed for a quick stop in the Miro Lounge, which serves the D gates at Barcelona-El Prat Airport.  The Miro Lounge is a contract lounge for a number of carriers, and also a member of several of the lounge access programs.  Beyond the usual amenities, the lounge included a small spa with for-pay treatment.  Despite our delays, I had just enough time before we boarded for a quick visit to prepare this Barcelona Miro Lounge review.

As a reminder, for internal “house” reviews, we score on the same 1-3 scale we use elsewhere. A 3 indicates that a given category exceeded reviewer expectations, a 2 indicates it met expectations, and a 1 failed to meet expectations. We evaluate the categories we believe are most relevant to the flight, hotel, or lounge experience.

The lounge was incredibly busy – basically at full capacity when we arrived at 10:20 AM.   Lounge access programs were being turned away and asked to return at 11:30 AM.  Although it was challenging to find a seat, there was a wide variety of seating options available, but it did not appear there was a great deal of seating with power.

Beverage options were the highlight for this Barcelona Miro Lounge review.  While not anything special from a quality perspective, there was a very large selection available, particularly for a contract lounge.  A large fridge of beer and soft drinks, a solid self-service liquor selection, wine, and champagne were all available, as well as water, coffee, tea, and a large selection of juices.

Food – 2/3

The lounge was in breakfast mode when we arrived.  There was a decent spread of primarily cold food, including cold cuts, pastries, cookies, and fruit.  There were no hot dishes available.  While nothing special, everything looked pretty decent.  There was a sign for a more complex lunch menu (that began at 12:30 PM), but we left long before then.

Cleanliness – 2/3

The lounge was acceptably clean during the visit.

Bathroom – 2/3

The bathrooms were fairly standard and in good shape.  There were numerous stalls and sinks and everything was acceptably clean.  There were two shower rooms, but I did not have a chance to utilize them.

WiFi – Not Reviewed

I did not review the WiFi, as I was within range of the airport WiFi, which was good, so I did not bother switching.  However, Mrs. PTI did log on and reported that it worked well.  There was no password, but you were required to submit an email address or log in with Facebook.

Views – 2/3

The lounge did not have tarmac views, but did have good views of the inside of the bustling Barcelona Airport.  Better than nothing!

Barcelona Miro Lounge Review Overall – 2/3

The Barcelona Miro Lounge is a fairly solid lounge to kill time at, but nothing special.  If you like getting your drink on, the lounge definitely excelled on that front.  The seating was comfortable enough, but the level of crowdedness – at least when we visited – was unfortunate.  All in all, a decent but unremarkable lounge.
