Returning from our quick trip to the United Kingdom, it was time to head home. Due to both flight price and upgrade availability, we ended up connecting from London Heathrow (LHR) to Brussels (BRU) en route to Washington Dulles (IAD). Our flight was… quite early, departing at 6:50 AM. However, we still had time to spend at the Lufthansa T2 Senator Lounge at Heathrow. One thing I like – although many people do not – is that the Lufthansa Senator Lounges are pretty consistent whether you’re in DC, Heathrow, or Frankfurt. On the one hand, you don’t get any surprises – like when you go to the LAX United Club and see real food. On the other, you know what you’re getting into. This trip was no different, and as you’ll see in my Heathrow Lufthansa Senator Lounge review, this lounge got the job done.
Details
Name of Lounge: Lufthansa Senator Lounge Terminal 2
Location: London Heathrow Terminal 2
Time/Length of Visit: 5:00 AM – 6:00 AM
Date of Visit: November 30, 2019
Seating – 2/3
Heathrow’s Lufthansa Senator Lounge was set up a little differently than other Senator Lounges. You entered through the Business Lounge and were given a QR code to scan to access the Senator Lounge, which was located through the Business Lounge. The Senator Lounge was on the smaller side for seating, which was split between loungers, high tops, tables, and a business-ish area. When we first got to the lounge at 5 AM, as you might expect, it was quite empty. By the time we left around 5:40 AM, however, it was already half full. One gripe is that there weren’t a ton of power outlets available—one of my favorite things to complain about.
Drink – 3/3
Although nothing superb, there was a really good selection of alcohol available. Of course, it was 5 AM. Last time I drank this early it was in the name of research, but I wasn’t feeling the vibe today. Espresso drinks from the machines were excellent, and there were a couple of juices available as well. For a lounge of this caliber, I would say it exceeded expectations for availability and selection.
Food – 3/3
While there wasn’t anything fru-fru available—well, actually there was brie and goat cheese—it was a great spread and the food was good. Hot options included eggs, sausage, tomatoes, mushrooms, potatoes, beans, and bacon. Cold options included cereal, parfaits, and a nice cold cuts and cheese platter. Breakfast is typically a meal that lounges and airplanes struggle with, but this was exactly what you want at 5:30 AM—paired with a double espresso, of course.
Cleanliness – 3/3
The lounge was clean – of course, there weren’t many people in it, but nonetheless it was in good shape.
Bathrooms – 3/3
The bathrooms were clean. No showers were available, however, but that made some sense given many flights here were on the continent.
Wifi – 3/3
I wasn’t doing any heavy-duty internet work, but the speed test came in with a brisk 70 down, 13 up, and 27 ping. Not bad, Lufthansa!
Views – 1/3
While you could see the tarmac, the metal window protectors unfortunately obstructed most of the view. Obviously it was also dark, but there wasn’t much to see due to the obstruction and location.
Heathrow Lufthansa Senator Lounge Review Overall – 2.5/3
I’m not a lounge snob in that I expect the basics to be nailed. Give me edible food, drinkable booze and coffee, decent bathrooms, and a place to sit, and you’re going to get a 2.5/3 from me. The bottom line of the Heathrow Lufthansa Senator Lounge review is that this lounge checks the appropriate boxes. Is it an aspirational lounge to get to the airport early for? Not really, unless you want to get drunk. But is it a lounge that makes the time pass pleasantly? Absolutely. I’m glad we were able to stop at it.
