Going with a bit of a blast from the past to this past fall, I wanted to take a moment to review a great hotel in the Hilton collection, The Sound. Typically I’m confined to airport hotel boringness on work trips, but for this one I was able to secure a reservation at The Sound, a Hilton Tapestry Collection hotel, with the tradeoff being a double queen room instead of a king. Located in Belltown near a number of tourist sites, this hotel would turn out to be an excellent stay. One interesting aspect about this hotel is it had some shared amenities with a condo/apartment building, which I had not seen before in my travels. Read on for my review of The Sound Seattle Belltown.
Details
Dates: 9/23/19 – 9/25/19
Room Type: 2 Queen Beds standard
Price: $260 / night (cash)
Room – 2/3
I was really impressed with how nice the “Basic” two-queen bed room was. Despite being a downtown hotel, the room was a good size and very well laid out. Ample wardrobe space and a Keurig are all a business traveler could ask for. The bed was also extremely comfortable. Overall, the room was in great shape, and showing minimal/no wear and tear.
Bathroom – 3/3
The bathroom was quite nice. The shower was excellent, and the vanity had plenty of space. The bathroom was also in near-mint condition.
Breakfast – 2/3
Breakfast was served in a lounge room that was shared use with the attached apartment building, although in the morning it seemed to be hotel guests only. Selections were fairly limited, with just eggs and breakfast meat for hot options, but the food was good quality. The first day was breakfast tacos, which were great, but the second day was just scrambled eggs and bacon. The coffee was also quite good and up to Seattle standards.
Status Benefits – 2/3
Breakfast was included for being a Hilton Diamond member. No other benefits were offered, but for a Tapestry property, this is pretty standard.
Hotel Facilities – 3/3
I’m blatantly padding this score due to the incredible view from the lounge, but there was a really incredible view from the lounge. At night, the lounge where breakfast is served doubles as a bar for guests and apartment residents, complete with firepits (well, fire walls). Unrelated to this amazing spot where I enjoyed a few nightcaps that I didn’t need, the gym was pretty tiny.
Service – 3/3
Everyone in the hotel was extremely pleasant and nice, which really stands out in an American hotel in particular.
Location – 3/3
The hotel has a superb downtown location. It is a 10-minute walk from a number of attractions, such as Pike Place Market and the Space Needle. It’s also quite near the highway if you’re driving – although parking is extremely expensive.
The Sound Seattle Belltown Review Bottom Line – 2.5/3
Hilton markets the Tapestry Collection as unique 3-to-4 star hotels with character. The Sound Seattle Belltown absolutely delivered on this premise. A nice standard room, great location, friendly service, and an outdoor lounge on the seventh floor with great views (and a bar) made for a hotel experience that was far more pleasant than normal. If you’re in the Seattle area, I highly recommend this hotel.
