Our newest expansion comes with legendary Star Alliance carrier Singapore Airlines – we have now expanded our Singapore Airlines business class reviews! Bloggers and reviewers LOVE Singapore Airlines business class. Sometimes we have to search the ends of the earth to find enough reviews (such as with Garuda Indonesia first class) to make things worthwhile. With Singapore, we expanded from five reviews to 16 with ease, and even had to leave some out due to Singapore Airlines Business Fatigue Syndrome (SABFS).
These reviews were quite helpful, as our initial impression of Singapore Airlines was not fully accurate. The expansion better captures the superb soft product, but also flags the changes in seats that Singapore is rolling out, and the mild controversy around Singapore Airlines not providing business class seats.
As a reminder, Premium Travel Insider aggregates reviews from around the web and scores them on a 1-3 scale. A 3 indicates that a given category exceeded reviewer expectations, a 2 indicates it met expectations, and a 1 failed to meet expectations. We evaluate a variety of categories, the most important of which we call the “Big 5” that are most important to a premium travel experience: seat, food, drink, service, and in flight entertainment. What Changed the Most?
Category | Current Rating | Previous Rating | Change |
Seat | 2.44/3 | 2.00/3 | +.44 |
Drink | 2.67/3 | 2.25/3 | +.42 |
IFE | 2.79/3 | 2.40/3 | +.39 |
Service | 2.88/3 | 2.60/3 | +.28 |
WiFi | 1.71/3 | 2.00/3 | -.29 |
Amenity Kit | 1.69/3 | 2.00/3 | -.31 |
Lots of things changed, and they mostly changed for the better. Seat took a big jump because Singapore Airlines has been rolling out new seats on both their A380 and A350. Although these seats have some pros and cons – notably, great privacy and lounging comfort, but some issues with sleep comfort – the reviews are generally positive. The soft product is undeniably superb, with stellar service and drink program coming up as high marks. The IFE is also quite excellent, and reviewers had nothing but positive things to say about it.
All is not perfect on Singapore, however. The biggest concern is over the amenity kit – namely that Singapore doesn’t provide them in business. Instead, items are available on demand or in the lavatory (i.e., dental kits). Some reviewers thought this was efficient and less wasteful. Most reviewers, however, found it to be cheap for an otherwise stellar airline. WiFi also dropped, but WiFi is usually a mixed bag on flights, so we won’t read too much into that.
What (Mostly) Didn’t Change?
With so much changing, only a few things stayed the same. Food continued to score quite highly at 2.63/3. Lavatories stayed constant at 2.00/3, with reviewers commenting that they were spotless. Bedding was also fairly consistent, dropping a tiny amount but remaining at a great score of 2.44/3.
Is Singapore Airlines Business Class Worth Flying?
Based on our expanded Singapore Airlines business class reviews, we can definitively state that Singapore Airlines is a great product to fly. There is an incredible soft product, a strong hard product, and very little to hate on except the lack of true amenity kits. While aggregating the reviews, I had a hankering for both a Singapore Sling and satay – something Singapore Airlines serves on every flight! Looks like my bucket list just got longer!
